Wow. Had no idea how powerful the system is. Seems like it would be nice if the mechanic would close all open spaces before performing the test to prevent undue stress on hinges, ect.

Yup, especially since last item on the checklist (shown on the computer screen at the beginning of the video) says "close all doors"...

How about some of the asinine comments from all the Infinity folks? Then there's the guy who says it's DSC and not active suspension...

Sorry to dig up such an old thread. After seeing this video, I'm slightly confused with how the dynamic drive works? I thought the dynamic drive provided a special sway bar (also known as anti-roll bar) but it would allow it to vary the coupling from detached to coupled (and everything in between). How would a sway bar make the car tilt side to side like this?

Does dynamic drive also have some kind of active suspension too where it can raise and lower the left and right sides of the car independently?

TIA

The easiest way to describe it is that it uses hydraulic pressure from the same pump that boosts steering to twist the swaybar in the appropriate direction to keep the body nearly level when natural forces caused by turning are trying to roll it. I don't know if everyone can hear it, but when I go into a corner, I can hear the hydraulic actuators applying toque to the sway bars. The noise varies with the g-forces in the turn.

Judging from the wheels, it's a 530i with Sport Package.

Ah ok, I think I understand. A standard sway bar provides the connection as it is one long bar. I thought the dynamic drive system connected two halves of a sway bar together from varying degrees of stiffness. Didn't realise it could actually give it a twisting force such that it can raise one side of the car relative to the other. This does imply that when you're going round a bend, it provides much better anti-roll than a standard sway bar. Awesome!

It's just a shame that this option seems so rare in UK!
