Vibration in Steering Column

My Ride: Current Vehicle - 2004 BMW E60 530i - Steptronic – Titanium Silver - iDrive - PDC - Black Dakota Leather– Adaptive Xenon Headlights (auto leveling) – Telescopic Steering – Heated Steering Wheel – Rear Heated Seats – Logic 7
I was experiencing a vibration and clicking sound when the steering wheel could come into position after I start the car. Took it to the dealer, they greased a dry "worm" and charged me an hour to diagnose. I was quite upset, talked with the S.M. he advised if the noise returned within a year they could refund and re diagnose the problem.
2 weeks after greasing the "dry worm" the noise is back, just got a call advising my steering column needs to be replaced. thankfully my third party warranty stepped up to the plate again and will cover the cost to fix the problem.
I am curious, does anyone know how many hours it takes to change the column? How much is the parts? Since the warranty approved the costs I am only responsible for the deductible which is $50.00

Greasing your worm sounds a bit out of line....but at least they did it for an hour so you got your money's worth!

Got my car back from the stealership today with a new steering column. The extended warranty compnay cover 1653.xx of the 1703.xx bill.... what a relief i bought the warranty.

Is your steering on your e60 fixed now? I hope so, but in case it's not, here is a true story that happened to me a few months ago, when I too was having a clicking type noise in my steering column, and my SA at my Atlanta South BMW dealer said there's been a BMW recall on some 2004-05 e60 models steering column box, having that same problem that you just described in your post.
Mine had the very same problem, and all they did was change mine to a heavier oil in my steering column box, its been 5000 miles later and so far it did solve the noise problem when turning my steering wheel, and if that did not work he said they would replace the steering box at no charge to me, because it is a factory recall covered by my BMW.
I know it is an annoying pain in the A?!, and I hope BMW can help you with yours getting fixed, and it falls under the BMW 2004-05 e60 recall their talking about!!

I had the same problem. they have replaced the column. the total bill was around 1400 USD which was covered by warranty. I only paid 110$ which was for car/wheel alignment.
Sometimes I still feel slight vibration (lighter than the vibration of the logic 7) at stand still though but I am not sure if this is me being a... or is it a real vibration
