Maybe the differnce is that my refernce point is my X5 not the e60. I run 18" Pirrelli Scorpians ??

Ever since I took delivery of my 2007 525i, I have noticed a very slight vibration at highway speeds, particularly during the first 15 ? 20 minutes of driving. I figured that one of the tires is not perfectly balanced and that I would have BMW take a look at it during the first checkup; however, I?m still kind of puzzled as to why it would go away after driving around for a few minutes.

This past weekend I didn?t drive the car at all and on Monday morning the vibration was much noticeable, but again, it slowly went away within the first 10 or so mins. It occurred to me that this vibration could be from ?flat spots? on the tire from resting overnight rather than from out of balance condition. I know that this can happen if you store the car for an extended period of time, but I have never experienced it from just overnight or over the weekend parking. I live in Florida, where extreme cold temperatures are not a possible factor.

Anyhow, I decided to increase the tire pressure to the ?Over 100 MPH? setting as this would reduce the deflection on the tire and potentially help if this was indeed the problem. It seems to have helped.

Does this make sense to you or am I going out of my mind? Anyone experienced what I?m talking about?
I have had the same experience with the Conti's that came on my 06 525xi 9000 miles. I think it is flat spots after sitting because the longer the car sits the worse it is and the slight vibration is at all speeds. I was going to ask the Dealer to balance the tires and maybe rotate them the next time I'm there.

My new 530D M Sport does this on 19's and my 4.8iS X5 did it also.

Never really thought about complaining to the dealer as I guess there's not a lot they can do?

Mogsyman is absolutely spot on - there is not a lot that you can do once you've got flat spots.

I wasted lots of $$$ a couple of years back getting my wheels balanced and re-balanced repeatedly thinking that this would make the problem go away - it does not. All that happens is that the balancing appears to have taken the vibration away ... until you realise it has just moved to a different speed.

The only thing that has worked to date is the over-inflation of tyres when parked for long periods and the slight over-inflation of tyres on a day-to-day basis (see my earlier post in this thread - #4). Perhaps someone has had a wheel/tyre combination that does away with the problem altogether?
