I had the MRR GT-1 wheels installed on my 530i and the manufacturer assured me that their wheels were hub centric. Well, I found out that they were not. I experienced vibrations between 50 - 60 mph and the wheels had been balanced twice which didn't correct the problem. Regarding the rust issue, there was a little rust so I'm not sure how much rust can cause a problem or if it had anything to do with my problem, however after several conversations with MRR they supplied me with the hub centric rings which resolved the problem.
