AFAIK:
The nav pro requires the bigger screen, new software, the dvd drive and MAYBE (maybe you have it allready - depends on your spec.) the CCC, car communications computer, instead of the M-ASK, multimedia audio system controller. M-ASK is the computer for bus nav. But some other options require the CCC too, so maybe you have it allready.
So, just the dvd drive doesn't help you.
Little example:
When you bought a BMW before the nav pro was an option, but you wanted to get nav pro, you've been able to order the pre wiring for nav pro. Without that an upgrade is too difficult. If you DO ordered the pre wiring, it would still take your dealer a day to upgrade the system, maybe even two days.
The first cars which got upgraded, then had the problem, that the v-max (speedlimiter) was set on 210 Km/h for some strange reason. That seems to be no more issue but shows how difficult the upgrading process is.

It's definately NOT a DIY job...

Hi Iceman,
If he has the pre-wiring, then he just needs the 8" screen, the CCC, and some cables + a software update.
The CCC includes everything (dvd+cd+computer) and takes the space of two standard radios (that's because the storage tray is gone after the upgrade)

So when a friend offers him the nav pro drive, the CCC is included ?!
Then he just needs to make sure he gets an 8'' screen, the cables and software...
But I still don't think it's a DIY job.
Right ?
And on a pre wired car... I would let the dealer do it. Maybe a little more expensive, but less trouble for me.

Think of CCC as an upgraded M-ASK with an extra CD drive.
See my post about the CCC, the first page has a picture of it.
