Very annoying creaking sound from my E60; HELP!

I have a very irritating creaking noise on my E60. It sounds as if the windscreen is loose (the creaking sounds like glass) but due to a stone chip I've recently had the windscreen replaced and noise is still there.
The creaking normally occurs about 5 minutes after setting off and happens when the front wheels hit a bump or dip in the road (have tried driving in reverse and the noise does only happen when the bump is over the front wheels). Location wise it sounds as if it is coming from inside the dashboard, directly below where there is a grill in the centre of the dash.
Before I take it to the dealer to find the source of the problem would anyone have any clue what might be causing this?
Thanks in advance.

I had the exact same problem. It was a loose strut bar bolt. Dealer replaced the bolt, and I never
heard a peep again.

Was your car under warranty when it was fixed? If not, how much did the dealer charge?

It was under warranty. If indeed that is your cars problem, then it is an extremely
easy fix.

It was worse when the temperature(ambient) was cold.
