Are the ventilated seats in the E60 passively ventilated or actively cooled? Some cars are using Peltier devices to actively cool the air blown through the seats. Some cars just use the ambient in-car air to ventilate the seats. See, for example:

Which type are used in the BMW?

I think it's a passive vent -- no cooling as far as I know...

I had ventilated seats in my E55 and they were just that--ventilated--something like 6 or 8 small fans in each seat that gently blow air through small perforations in the leather. I suspect the BMW seats are the same, since they're call ventilated seats.

Welcome aboard, tesla !

They are not cooled, they are just ventilated. BUT the ventilation is so damn good it really cools you down. It feels like it is cooled, not just ventilated, that's how good the ventilation is!

Welcome

You must see for yourself (go to a local dealer and test the seats). The thing is: if you get those you will have some perforation in your seats. it will be DAMN hard to use some leather care for your seats with those cooling holes in your seat. the leather-care thing will clog the perforation and then: no cooling.

So watch out. I wouldn't recommend them unless you live in FL or any other hot state
