On my last visit to the dealer, I requested to get my car's service history as I'm the second owner and wanted to find out what has been done and at what intervals so I can keep-up the maintenance. SA told me that they can pull this record and with my key in their fancy reader's slot and boom the whole service history showed up.

BUT, he only showed it to my for a quick glance and when I requested to print a copy for me, he told me that he can't (or won't) as this is BMW confidential info. I don't understand what is so confidential about it as it's my car now and I want to keep-up the maint. on it.

Is this normal? Has anybody asked for this info from the dealers, successfully? What other way to find this record?

Thanks.

It is confidential, because it is telling you something about the previous owner too.

just ask to review it with him and he will go through line by line and let you know what the history of the vehicle is. That is what i did when i took mine for a test ride.
straight to the dealer and tell them you just bought the car...

I'll try that next time I'm in. Hopefuly he will let me take down the notes for all the major services done like oil changes, brakes, or anything with dates. It only has 35000 miles right now, so hopefully it shouldn't be a long list.

thanks

When I asked for my car's service history, the sales rep printed it out, cut out the top portion with the previous owner's data and gave me the rest. Maybe you could ask him to do the same?
