Can someone please tell me what is Vehicle check?
My computer is indicating that I am due for a check, but everyone is talking about inspection 1 & inspection 2 - what's the difference

Also, could someone from the UK recommend an independent garage in London, i need to replace my brake pads and the dealer quoted ?400!!

Statutory Vehicle Check on the iDrive service screen refers to the MOT test, once you've done this you can manually reset the reminder for the next year. Just click on the item in the iDrive menu and you'll be prompted for a new month and year.

It's a little out of the way, but I use an independent garage in High Wycombe called J & D Motors. John who runs the garage is an ex-BMW mechanic who left due to frustration with falling quality standards in franchised dealers. Last visit I had there was for Oil change, Break Fluid change, Microfilter change and new front pads, discs and sensors. They only use original BMW parts and the total bill came to ?480. Labour is a very competitive ?62.50 an hour, and since they aren't VAT registered there's a good saving right up front.

One piece of advice I got before going over the first time was not to be put off by the garage, which is out of the way and"low rent" looking. I'd certainly advise this also. I was a bit nervous dropping my pride and joy there, but couldn't be happier with the results and price.

Furthermore, John's a real BMW enthuiast. I spent another 30 mins just chatting about E60's and the F10 that's coming.

He is a bit out of the way, but unless i find another reputable BMW specialist near me, i will call on J&D

Let me know how you get on as I have heard good things about them as well (through a website by someone called John G Burns - some kind of BMW enthusiast)

I found J&D through the same website, http://www.unixnerd.demon.co.uk/bmw.html

There's a great review section for BMW garages, both independent and franchised. Take a look there, you maybe able to find something closer to home.
