My Ride: 2006 BMW 550i CPO bought in Jan 2009
The Valvoline SynPower mentioned in BMW documentation is a European formula and only available in the European market. The SynPower in the USA market is not LL-01 certify if that makes any difference to you. Make sure to tell the Valvoline customer service that you are in the US market.

My Ride: 95 M3 CAI, chipped, pulleys, Xbrace, doesn't give headaches every time I start up!
04 545i all the goodies INCLUDING HEADACHES!
Well it's too late now! Changed to the Synpower 5W-30 this morning. I only plan to run for 7.5K anyway. I think that LL-01 stuff is formulated for those that only change at the 15K interval. The 545i hasn't complained yet but there was some crudd in the bottom of the filter.

My Ride: 05 545i 6MT
The only experience I have w/ Valvoline Syn 5w-30 is w/ Saab 92X (EJ20 Subaru 2.0 turbo engine)
I had oil burn. Abt 1.25 qt / 5000 miles. Somehow it just doesn't like Valvoline Syn.
I switched to Rotella T Synthetic 5w-40 diesel grade oil and the oil burn was significantly less (.5qt/5K miles)
I am not sure on BMW's V8, just make sure you monitor the dipstick if this is the first time you use it.
I think 7.5K miles of daily drive is fine w/ Valvoline Synthetic.

You meant the diesel oil on the Saab?
It's because the Shell Rotella T Diesel Grade 5w-40 is very much praised all over the Subaru board as well as motorcycle owners. I use same oil on my motorcycle.
I also tried it on the 545. It ran fine w/o any burning issue or other issue.
But then I ended up going back to German Castrol because I read somewhere diesel grade oil's zinc is not catalytic converter friendly in the long run. And also BMW recommends Castrol
For Subaru/Saab, I can find cheap cat replacement because most WRX/STi owners are going catless but it'll be $$$$ for E60.
So far, the Saab/Subaru's cat is still functional w/o issue @ 85K miles.
