Hi,
I am in the process of replacing valve cover gasket on my 2005 545i.
Do you know how to reposition valvetronic motors (the servomotor for the eccentric shaft)? TIS says that you need connect the diagnostic tester and do the adjustment, because there is a risk of damage the intermediate shaft.

Any ideas?

You're asking this question now???
Shouldn't you have researched this before starting?

I am not perfect. I didn't notice that when I read the manual for the first time. I still have few hours of assembly before I will get to that point... ;-)

Are you replacing this because you have a leak? If so, I went through numerous changes, even replaced the valve cover because they later thought that it was warped. It wasn't the valve cover...it turned out to be a leak in the #1 Sparkplug that was causing the leak. Evedently, there was a casting issue with the cylinder head and so it was replaced. $9000 later no problem, btw the car was out of warranty but was still covered. Great service writer/manager at Roseville BMW here in the Sacramento area for fighting for me! Good luck to you otherwise.

All I would do at this point is panic. That looks like major surgery.

Interesting. I was planning on doing both soon, but saw no procedure on alldata that said you needed to reprogram the servo motor. I was under the impression of bolt and go..

Where did you see the bulletin that said that? Do you mind posting it or a link?

Yes, I had few leaks. The bottom part of the gasket was cracked in few spots. It was also very hard. My car has 93k.

I have a printout from TIS. My scanner is dead right now, but you can buy access for 24h or try to find the BMW TIS CD on eBay.

Hope that will help. I have more pix from this project. If you need help\advice please let me know.
How many miles you have on your car?

68k. I checked again, it only pays 0.7 hours to change both actuator motors, and says nothing about reprogramming. Now, if you changed the adjusters, i believe it needs programming. But, that involves much more work. 12.7 hours just for those. I have a scanner but i dont think it has reprogramming capability, especially for these cars.

I am an ASE certified master tech, but am i fairly new to this particular engine. I dont see why it would need reprogramming, unless you changed the levers. It is only an actuator that is PWM i believe. I would think it would be based on the position of the eccentric shaft how the computer controls, not the other way around.

Let me know for sure if you find out if they need reprogramming. I may call the dealer and ask.

I just spoke to the dealer, there is NO reprogram necessary he said. He is the lead SA at my dealership. Just bolt and go.
