I've had a V1 for over 10 years, and a couple of days ago it just stopped working...
I have it direct wire tapped into the wires that feed the outlet in the passenger footwell and then the phone cord snaking it's way up the A pillar, across the windshield and to the unit.
When it quit a couple of days ago, I pulled the passenger panel down to check the fuse. Not blown. I reinstalled everything, and it fired up just fine.
Yesterday, it wouldn't turn on again. I pulled the panel down and checked the fuse with an ohm meter, and it still shows continuity, so I don't think it's the fuse. I have checked the V1 unit itself with another plug in adapter, and it fires up fine, so it's not the V1 itself. I have plugged in another detector into the installed power cord, and no dice.
Is it possible that the "Direct Wire Power Adapter", (the little black box) from Valentine could go bad? I don't think the wire tap connections have gone bad, so the black box is the only other choice. I need to check the wire taps for juice when I get home, but has anyone had the power adapter black box go bad?
Any other ideas?
Thanks!

It's certainly possible. But I would check the crimp connections (hot and ground) coming out of the power adapter anyway and make sure they are good. You most likely have a loose/corroded wire connection somewhere.
FYI - I installed one of these in my Camaro over ten years ago and it still works.

Thanks, I tested the crimp on connectors, and they were fine.
It turned out to be the phone jack end coming out of the adapter. I'll just cut it off and re-attach a new one.

I love my V1, these things are bulletproof. Mine is mounted high and they absorb a tremendous amount of heat, very hot to the touch, yet they still work time after time.
Check your connections too, they may have gone dirty and aren't getting good metal to metal contact.

How is your battery condition? I have one in my 550i and when my battery started getting weak mine would keep shutting off and powering back on, typically when going off due to an active alert. Something else to consider.

Thanks! Good idea to remember as the car has 82k miles on it.
However, it ended up being the plug. I was able to replicate the issue by moving the cord going into the plug back and forth.
