Until the others give me directional arrows, etc., I won't be finding out how "good" they are...

Remember that these are RADAR detectors and not POLICE detectors. If you have discovered many more sources of radar, it is because the V1 is more sensitive. There is a link to program the V1 in the thread. I agree with Rudy that the direction arrow usefulness far outweights the selectivity of the X50. Good luck.

Meanwhile, Midnight, that will be us V1 guys passing you when you aren't sure where the bogey is.

You've just proven my point- you made it too easy (I would never have done that ). You should either compare both, or at least keep an open mind about it. Most V1 owners just say that "V1 is the best," or "V1 rocks" etc. in response to posts like Gadgets, without actually having first hand experience with other excellent detectors. Depending upon where you typically drive, the false alarms with the V1 can really make driving an unpleasant experience. And there is absolutely no proof that the increased false alarm rate of the V1 translates into better sensitivity for detecting police radar. Check out the last link in the following post for some data:

I thought I understood your point but now I'm not so sure (or why I "made it too easy" and why you "would have never done that"). I didn't realize there was a competition going on, I'm simply saying that after using plain detectors for many years, including the original Escort & original Passport (before the introduction of the V1), I prefer the V1 not because of it's sensitivity (it's good enough) or selectivity (it's also good enough). What sets the V1 apart from all of the others is the directional arrows and bogey counter. Those two things provide a driver with more information about a threat. Once you get used to having that additional information, it's hard to go back to a regular detector -- no matter how much better the unit filters false alarms or performs on a comparison test.

One key point that I don't think anyone has said -- the directional arrows and bogey counter help you identify false alarms fairly quickly. In most cases, a false alarm will "look" different from a genuine threat if you pay attention to the information the V1 is presenting you. I'm fine with letting the unit tell me all about any/all radar signals that are present and then letting me decide whether or not I need to take any action.

sc02492, I understand you are happy with your purchase and I understand why you made it (based on the opinions you posted some time ago.) I'm not bashing the unit you chose nor am I saying you did anything wrong by choosing it. I'm simply stating that I'm not interested in taking a step backwards and losing information I feel is important to the overall assessment of a police radar threat so I"ll say it again, "Until the others give me directional arrows, etc., I won't be finding out how "good" they are..."

I completely understand your points, and they are valid. I still miss the directionals, which I really liked. The "perfect" detector in my opinion would be the X50 with directionals

Based on what you've told us about your experiences with both units, you are probably right on with that one!

Maybe, but after ten years of V1 experience with no tickets while driving BMW 6-speed V8s, I would be hard to convert.

Just to add my $0.02, I have the X50 and love it - I have never had a ticket since I bought it.

Just like in the different seletion process we took to get our cars (BMW or not) so too the choices have to be there for teh radar detectors as we do not all think and process alike. My experience is almost identical to Rudy's. Tried others but the V1 worked best for me as I also act as a filter device. I prefer the directional info and do my own filtering as necessary. Even tried the new X50, but could not bring myself to switch.
