I pulled my brake booster today and it was filled with oil so I need to replace the vacuum pump. Can the pump be rebuilt or do I need to drop $350 for a new pump? Do I need to order any other parts, seals or gasket to replace the vacuum pump? Any recommendations on where to get a rebuild kit or new vacuum pump?

Before buying anything, check your dealer for recall. I had same issue on '05 545, all taken care of. Good luck

Weird, last time I had my car serviced they took care of the booster recall. This time I went in because the alternator died, and they told me it would be $800 to fix the leaking vacuum pump. wonder if its related.

I believe the recall was only for the V8 engines (N62 and N62N) aka 4.4L V8 and the 4.8L V8.

The vacuum pump is supposed to have oil in it to keep it lubricated. The pumps are NOT rebuildable, but the seals are available (outside of BMW). The BMW recall does not change the vacuum pump, but merely checks for oil in booster and changes out the line for one that prevents the oil from making it to the brake booster. If oil is found in the booster, it is replaced along with the line.

My car does not qualify for the BMW recall. It's only for the 8 cylinder engines. I have the 6 cylinder n52 engine. It seems like both of the engine set ups have the same issues. Does anyone have a recommendation on where to order part # 11667519457 VACUUM PUMP ? Thanks, Steven
