Hi Folks,
it's been a while hope you are all well.

My 535d has been having poor idling problems for a long time now. It has now reached
210,000 miles. The rough running started at around 1200rpm needle jumping up and down.
It was really like an auto gearbox problem so I just lived with it.
About a week ago it got much worse and my small turbo stopped working. I plugged it into the gt1 and sure enough the small turbo
was indeed not working and it told us to check the vacum hoses.
I was really shocked, two of them were halfed in two!
We repaired them and I will have to change every single one of them.
The rough running is still there but my turbo is now boosting.

I am hoping if I change all of them I might get a smooth vehicle back again.

Anyone have any experience with this problem?

Thanks guys

Will be doing the job next week going to replace all the hoses with my mechanic. He has really heavy duty vacum hose. Think it will take us a few hours. I am expecting the car to run much better. They are really badly worn.

I have 102,000 miles on a 535d and occasionally lose the small turbo boost. It always runs fine when cold but after it has warmed up there is no power until ~3000rpm. I have to resort to manual shifting pulling out at junctions it is so slow.

Having read about a split vacuum hose, I had a look and found this...

Any thoughts welcome - what these are and should they be open ended hoses?

Cheers,
Mike

No this is my problem also. replace or repair these and you will get your small turbo back. What is happening is you dont have a small turbo when this one is broken. So you will get a big kick at around 3000rpm when the big turbo kicks in. I have ordered some silicone vacum pipe and my mechanic is going to replace all of them. My car is still running a bit rough but i have my small turbo back and that is with two broken pipes temporarily repaired with some brake bike.
Will try and take a couple of pics tommorow to show you the repair and i think it is one of the pipes in the photo.

bmw will charge about £9.00 per hose. To be honest the quality is not great and the heat in there is very hot. So i am going to try some silicone hoses.

Cheers

Hi Mate,
Just wanted to see if those two images downloaded! Ok what you see in the pics is the repair of two vacum hoses until we get the vacum hose and repair them full length. The rubber hose you see attached to the round black plastic thingy was also put in temp. So this pipe was originally going from the black ball to a little plastic 3 way joint. We put rubber hose on both ends and joined it with brake pipe. The other pipe has been replaced from just under the bulkhead to the front of the engine area.
One of these or both these repairs brought the small turbo back on. However, all the pipes are rotten. My car has done 210,000 miles!

The reason it was only a temp repair was that we need to get hose and the bulkhead area will have to come out. This is not a big job but without the correct pipe we just repaired the broken ones on the top. When fully replaced i hope my rough running has gone.

I will include pics of the job being done later in the week.

cheers

Thanks Fraseman,

I am reassured that you have 210k miles - that is great news, I am ony halfway there!

Thanks for the pics too - gives me an idea of what I can do until I get it to the garage. I hope your silicone pipes work well.

Cheers,
Mike

I´m sory but you wont
I think problem is somewhere in gearbox, my car is doing that only when it´s cold.. warm, no problem. Some have had the same problem until a new, and some got it later..
I have the problem resolved for a while, when I changed the gearbox oil and filter. But now it has come back slightly weaker with cold motor & gearbox.

And yes I have changed all vacuum hoses.
