I went to the shop today because my car was leaking oil and they told me the vacuum pump was leaking..... has anyone ever heard of this? where can I purchase one? any info on this would be greatly appreciated.

Yes very common but also check the oil pressure switch directly under it. When it leaks it makes you think it is from the vacuum pump. Less then $20 at the parts store. the vacuum pump is about $400

Yeah it is a little hard to diagnose if you are not used to what goes wrong on these cars. Here is a picture of my leaky one compared to a new one. It actually leaks threw the electrical connector and the oil will follow the wire harness a little, then drop onto the belts where it will fling the oil all over the underside of the vacuum pump.
