I really like the rock solid feel of the whole package as you step on the pedal and take it through the twisties.

I agree the, Twisties are what separates these cars from everything else , adding the V8 is icing on the cake !
Cheers

I like the rumble of the exhaust and the revs of the engine when you really punch it! I also need the on demand power when I mash the pedal to the floor and engage the kick down when someone cuts me off.

I really like the sound of the '08 550i with the sport package. It's got a nice muted growl at moderate throttle. I'm still in break-in so I haven't heard full throttle or red line yet. The 650i was a bit louder but not as pleasant. The E39 V8 is still my favorite. It had a nice growl to the engine and was sweet to the 7k redline.

I used to like louder exhausts and have been a fan of V8s for too many years to mention but never went for the REALLY loud stuff of the past. Today I'm really liking the muted growl of the 550i.

I love that with all the power available from the V8, you can steer the car with the steering wheel, brake, and accelerator pedal too! WOOOHOOO!!!

My Ride: 08 550 Carbon Sport Almost everything factory, but no sound upgrades.

My first V8 was a 36 Ford with a flathead 60 V8. Had Belond headers and pipes ... that was the sound. Sounded a bit like an old barrel back ChrisCraft (not a V8).

My biggest V8 was a 78 Town Car. Had a 461 CI (7.56 litre) V8. No pipes on that one. Those huge jugs sucked up the gas. Today I couldn't afford to drive that sucker to the fuel pump and back!

In between have driven a 2 cylinder, 2 stroke Gutbrod, a straight 4 Fiat 850, a 6 cylinder MB 300SL Gullwing, a flat opposed 6 Porche 956 and even some kind of a DeSoto.

Back now in a V8 08 Bimmer 550. Sounds good. Has a more modern racing sound, not much like the old Ford. Could be a bit louder.

But, have been and always will be a V8 guy.

My first BMW V8 was an E34, the wonderful 1995 540 6-speed. Since then I've had 4 other V8-equipped cars: a '96 E420 Mercedes, a '98 Audi A8, an '01 E39 540, and now the '08 550. V8 engines are smooth, powerful, and seemingly limitless on available torque. V8's will put you back in your seat and, importantly, keep you there as you continue to accelerate.

My first car and first V8 was an Oldsmobile Delta 88. Just loved the way that thing drink gasoline.

My next V8 was an 86 Mustang GT . . . loved the way that thing sounded stocked. . . . and drink gas too. At least it was faster than the Olds.

My next V8 was LS 400. . . loved the smoothness and quiet power of the V8. So reliable.

My current V8 is the 545i . . . like the power and sound stock but would prefer more. Loved the way it drinks gas when I stomp on the pedal . . . At least it's the fastest V8 I've owned so far.

I think I'll go for a V10 or SC V8 the next time around. . . or maybe something that might not drink as much gas but still very fast.
