Ever since I got the new E60, every now and then when listening to USB, it will jump to the radio. I have tried three different types / size of USB stick now and different compression settings / audio types. I've kind of just got used to it even though it is annoying, but it doesn't happen that frequently. I was in the car with my wife today and it happened, and she said "that happens in my car too" (A 5 month old E70 X5 with US
. There's obviously some kind of software fault ... does anybody know of a service bulletin which reports this problem / fixes it ... ? I remember reading one about iPod jumping to FM, would that be the same issue? If so, can anybody post the link for me, I can't find it.
My car is going back in to the garage on Monday AGAIN for the squeaky brake problem which returned within a few hours of them "fixing" it last time. I'm dropping the car off Monday morning and am away until Tuesday so they are having the car for around 30 hours. Ideal time for a software upgrade, especially warranted if I can show them a service bulletin describing the fault and fix...
Thanks

The only time mine jumps to FM is when I shut the car off while USB is active and go back to start the car when the disk isn't able to spinup on it's own. In other words, I think the car switches to FM if it can't "see" anything in the USB interface.
I don't think it should be happening on a USB stick since I assume there's much less power required to make these work. Since it's happening to you on two cars, could it be something with the way your drive(s) are formatted and/or the format and bitrate of your music?
My drive is formatted with FAT32 and my music is all 192kbps .WMA format. I never had it jump from USB to FM while listening to the drive...

I tried different settings on my USB sticks ... currently am on 160k .MP3 but have tried others. My wife's are all in just whatever format the sound files came in, so different bitrates and different formats. All are FAT32, I don't believe any other disk type will work in the car.
You are correct, it does jump back when it can't see USB ... on my first memory stick, when it happened, I had to unplug the stick and put it back in. On the last two sticks, when it does it, I can immediately select USB again and the song even carries on playing where it left off!

Would be good if he'd sign up to the forum ... ?
Did have the switch to FM after a start frequently, and very infrequent (two times) jumping to FM during the drive. So far, getting the latest software (27.2 I think, the upgrade was made for other reasons) did solve this problem. So far.

Ask and you shall receive.
PLEASE NOTE: it states for E90 (3 series) and new X5, but it must be true as well for our 5/6 series. When enough of us report this as an issue that SIB will be modified to include us.
It is listed in the Adobe file I provided here, although I see I mistyped the middle number (should be 65 30 07 vice 65 33 07): http://forums.e60.net/index.php?s=&sho...st&p=483679
I will post just enough of the SIB for search engines to pick up on:
SI B65 30 07
Audio, Navigation, Monitors, Alarms, SRS October 2007
Technical Service
