I bought my 535 in April (it's an 09), and all this time I assumed the USB iPod connector charged the device when it was connected. I have never used it to play songs in the car because the nav is sooo slow at loading the iPod, that I'm usually at my destination by the time the songs are loaded into the nav.
Is this normal or is the USB connection supposed to charge the iPod the same way that a computer USB connection would?
Thanks

depends on the ipod generation you have, older gen's will charge, a few year back (right around the time the iPod touch was released), is when the cable or plug design was changed slightly, not allowing the 6fl/y cord to charge the device....
My first gen Ipod vid played and charged with the 6fl cord, but my ipod touch only played and did not charge in my e60.....

good to know. Mine is prob 3 years old (not an iPod touch)... maybe I'll try some of my other cords to see if that helps, as I have 10 different cords between my various devices.

if the OEM 6fl cord doesn't work, nothing else will AFAIK...

I'm not sure how to describe it... it looks like one of my older cords because the end that connects to the iPod is more than a half inch long so I figure it's one of my older cords... whereas my iPad cord is only about a quarter inch in depth.
Not sure was 6fl means in the above post.

My Ride: 2008 535i LCI with sports/premium package, Sports trans with paddle shifters, CF emblems, JB4 Software, Dinan Exhaust, Navigation, M5Tech body kit, Carbon wrap interrior trim and CIC Controller.
I have an 08 535 LCI and have this 6fl cord. All songs load within seconds and there has to be at least 20g of music, so if you are using the right cord you should be loaded before you get out of your driveway. The problem I ran into was my Touch and iPhone would not charge, but played music just fine. My iPod nano would charged with no problems. I found an adaptor that you can get through your dealer that incorporates a power recepticle . My next problem was that I only had the USB and AUX in the armrest so I had to add a power recpt. Now the new ipod adaptor plugs into the USB, AUX and power recept and then then the 6fl plugs into this new adaptor and everything works perfect. You can search under my name and there is a dealer fix attached with a part number to order from your dealer. I think it was like $79.00. If you have all three in your armrest usb, aux and pwr recpt. you should have no problems, otherwise you might need to add the power. There is a rear seat heat DIY that shows hor to remove the rear panel and was a huge help with my install.
