Guys...

I'm on the market shopping for a used E60. Mainly 530i.

I know the 2005 530i has the different engine than the 2006 530i. What is the best way to differentiate between the old and new 530i?

Will I be able to tell by looking at the VIN no.? or.. what is the different if I look at the engine bay.. Anything that can easily for me to tell whether it's a new or old version?

Same thing with the 525i... the 2004-2005 525 has less than 200hp and the 2006-current 525 has the 220hp engine.. how can I tell the different by looking at the engine bay?

Thanks a million..

Cheers
andy

If I'm not mistaken the "old" engines have a striped cover.

There is not a 525i in the USA @ present. The 528i has the 3.0. 535i has the same basic engine, but, turbocharged.

Wow... I've yet to own a E60... but I can sure felt the welcome from you fellows on this board.

Thanks you all so very much!

Reliability wise... which 530 has a better reputation? The 2004-2005 one or the 2006-2007?

Should I consider the 2006 525 over the 2005 530?

Should I consider the 2006 525 over the 2005 530?]

I have also came across a few 05 545 with good price? Should I be worry with 545 because of the V8?

I plan on buying a 2-3 yrs old E60 and keep it for at least 4-5 yrs....
