Hi all,

I have an E61 and date of first reg on V5 is 02/02/05.

Recently had the system software upgraded to V32 which I understand is the latest and MP3 functionality enabled. The guy that did it is very recently ex-BMW dealer but set up on his own and i have no reason to doubt his technical ability. Of course, I have no idea if the upgrade or MP3 functionality was applied correctly though.

The MP3 still wont play in the head unit though; I just get a message saying the media in the drive is not recognised. I have followed all the instructions to the letter on burning the CDs but none of them are even recognised.

I don't actually WANT to play MP3 CDs - I want to connect in my Gateway 500 but I understand that being able to play an MP3 CD through the head unit is a pre-requiste for this.

What are your thoughts and what are my options? I'm tearing my hair out, mostly at having ?300-worth of Dension sat doing nothing....

Mark.

when upgrading the software, at the end, they need to go in retrofit menu and choose MP3. This will not activate itself avtomatically when you do software update.

that's what i was told when i did mine

Yes.. there is a different procedure to retrofit MP3 playback. Ask him to refer to the SI B09 05 01 Coding, Individualization, Programming (CIP), for the "Retrofit" procedure

Hi
I had exactly the same problem! I had to actually get the SA to try my cd in another car before they would believe it was the car not coded correctly. As mentioned above simply getting the latest software on the idrive will not enable the option as its not treated as part of the core options so needs to be added to the list of retrofits that is then incorporated into the update before the car is coded. Or so im told

Either way it is possible and just needs the correct option selected.

HTH

Is it possible that the hardware in the car is too old? I read that there was a cutoff point around this time, before which the MP3 just won't work. Have I got that completely wrong?

I'll take this info to the guy and see what he can do.

Hi All

Once and for all , you have to get the BMW dealership to ad the mp3 FA/SA code to the car's FA/SA list elsway it WON'T workout with the update ! , they have to ad this to the car's FA/SA list firts and THEN do the update , just a software update will not help you to get the mp3 option on your M-ASK / CCC

Best regrads

Just been back and read my OP and perhaps need to clarify what I wrote:

As far as I am told, the tech that has done this has enabled the MP3 when doing the uplift to V32. However, what has been done has not worked despite repeated attempts. He is ex-dealer and apparently called a contact at the BMW dealer to check his approach which was approved and confirmed as correct.

What I don't know is whether it WAS correct. I certainly don't know whether the retrofit was applied before or after the uplift or other such details specific to the process. I have got a copy of SI B 09 05 01 dated March 2006 and also a copy of SI B65 30 05 dated March 2006 that I will take in with me next week.

I will post back how it goes.
