Is it possible for me to upgrade my 2004 530i's iDrive somehow, what would it take to get it to work with a newer version, and what would be the costs? And could a local bmw dealer do it?

What exactly do you mean when you say upgrade the iDrive? Is there some specific feature you are trying to get?

I think Dave might be trying to get the menu button added???? If that's the case, I would be sceptical as to the ability of anyone to actually get that done without ripping things apart and thus creating more of a mess!!!!

Either that or he's talking about the routine software upgrades the we're all so familiar with...

People on here have retrofitted the large screen and Professional Nav.

Yeah, that too -- another reason why we need some clarification from the OP...

My point was intended to be that even "extreme" retrofits (like the function keys" promise to be) have been successfully achieved. Requires skill and determination before thinking of the costs.

Exactly, before choosing to speculate, I was just trying to narrow down what the goal was so that you, me, and anyone else could give him some accurate information -- just like we've been doing here for around three years now...

Yes it's possible. Are you after a particular 'feature' or 'bug' removal?
