no (bmw don't want to admit that a problem exists) they come from PMW IN CHELMFORD ESSEX. THEY ARE ABOUT ?100. PARTS ONLY.

hello all,

I'm from Lyon, France. My car, a 330D E90 from 01/2006 has a leak oil problem from the intake manifold. I was thinking doing what it is explained here, to replace the swirl flaps by plates. Do you think this is possible for this model ? Are the seals provided by PMW ?

Thank you

Sure you can do it, it's the same engine. Check the DIY section, there is a guide. I don't know about the seals.

Do all the diesel engines have these flaps?

No, not all, but in most of them yes.
You can check a particular car for possible swirl flaps in www.realoem.com

I did, but it really dosent say much except for "Intake manifold with flap control", there dosent seem to be any replaceable flaps for my intake.
I understand that the metal blanking plates are not OEM, i recall someone saying that they bought new upgraded OEM flaps.

"Intake manifold with flap control" means the car has the swirl flaps. You can not buy new swirl flaps for any car, they are part of the intake manifold. Blanking plates are an aftermarket product, as BMW denies all problems concerning swirl flaps. You can buy the new "upgraded" intake manifold though, but there have been failures with these also. I've noticed that all cars that have the DPF, already have the "upgraded" intake manifold. So it's been out on market already at least for 6 years and I don't think we can talk about a "new" manifold anymore, as most of the diesel E60s has it.

Sounds like an accident waiting to happen, i guess i will order some blanking plates as well once the car is out of warranty.

Sounds like a plan. Check here: https://5series.net/forums/topic/704...diesel-engine/

You don't necessarily need the blanking plates, but I admit they are a way to "save" the swirl flaps in one piece if you need them later for some odd reason.
