Thought I would alert anyone who may have coverage under Erie - there is fine print in the policy that excludes coverage for radar detectors and other items such as cameras etc. I had my V1 and a $1,000 digital Nikon camera stolen when my 545 was broken into and Erie won't cover a dime . Its been 3 days and they still haven't approved coverage on the damage claim! My broker used to work exclusively for Erie but now has decided to branch out because of Erie's practices!

Buyer beware!!

Is it covered by your homeowner's policy? I think as long as it was inside the car it might be. (which of course it was.)

That sucks! I knew you had the V1 stolen but the Nikon digital too! Not familiar w/ Erie, are they a big company? And thanks for the heads up on the insurance. I'm going to pull policy to makes sure I don't have a similar exclusion.

Man, that is terrible! As bad as my checked luggage being pilfered and the airline not covering anything because the bag wasn't damaged-- just all the stuff inside was stolen! And AMEX didn't even cover the theft because it wasn't in my posession at the time. (...and excuse me, but since when are you physically holding something when it gets stolen?) I don't have Erie, but I really feel for you. I hope my insurance company doesnt' do that too!

State Farm is the best if you have good record.

There's a $2500 deductible on my homeowners and that policy won't cover radar detectors either. This just blows.

Joe, I'm really sorry about this news. That really sucks, big time.

I've heard time and time again that leaving a radar detector visible is like leaving a hundred dollar bill on the dashboard. I think we all need to remember this unfortunate episode and remember to exercise as much common sense as possible by not inviting thieves to target our cars. (I've been just as guilty of leaving my V1 up while parked so please don't take this as a "lecture" -- I'm just thinking that this episode reminds me that I'm probably not going to do that anymore!)

I guess once the thief commits to breaking in, he's going to look for anything else of value that he can quickly find.

Just terrible, this whole thing. Once again, I'm truly sorry...

If the claim goes through they'll probably raise your rates.
I have a high deductible and file very few claims for that reason. Only for major accidents do I file a claim. Same for my house.
