I have got about 31 mpg from my 530D Tourer almost since I bought it.
I have tended to use BP ultimate.
3,000 miles ago two things changed.
1. I put winter tyres on (Conti TS790v) instead of my GS D3's.
2. I started using Texaco Diesel, out of convenience.
MPG has improved over that time to 33mpg.
Same joiurneys to work etc.
Now winter tyres and colder weather should mean worse fuel economy right?
Maybe the Goodyears have a higher rolling resistance than the Conti's and/or Texaco Diesel is working better than BP Ultimate.
Wonder what will happen when the summers go back on (newPS2's)

How many miles / km have you done? At certain points the engine frees up and returns better fuel consumption (according to my BMW dealer). Maybe you hit one of these trigger points in the engine management?
I personally cannot comment, as unfortunately I was born with a heavy right foot.

Dear KAF,
Are your summertyres the same dimesion as your winter ones?
Wider tyres use more fuel, both the street contact, in my case 225 vs. 245,
and the wind impact makes, the similar changes for me.
If both are 225, your wintertyres just roll better. Maybe you have higher pressures in tyres?
I do not belive that the diesel fuel change has nothing to do with it.
Maybe you drive less aggressive now when it can be slippry.
Ususally cold wheather increasing the fuel comsuption, do to cold engines.

So once you've warmed up the engine is less stressed?

True, but doesn't denser (colder) air produce more power?
So once you've warmed up the engine is less stressed?
So once you've warmed up the engine is less stressed?Speaking of minus celsius.
But cold temperatures makes all oils stiffen, that needs energy to warm up.
