I have a Sept 03 E60 530d Auto with 90k on the clock that I bought 6 weeks ago. Obviously it is well out of warranty, it was supplied with the 03/02 Nav Disk (it has Business Nav). I have bought an 06/02 Business Nav disk. I now have a few shortcomings that I would appreciate some advice on. The TMC does not function and I don't seem to have POIs (should I on Business Nav?), I have loaded an MP3 cd in the multi changer and it is not recognised. From reading through the forum it would seem that I need get the CIP/Progman updated. Does anyone have any idea how much this is likely to cost? I've thought about getting the Aux input fitted, if I was to get the dealer to do this, would he include the CIP update in the cost of fitting and what is the price likely to be. My local dealer is Wood of Salisbury, and I just wanted to be forewarned before I approach them and get a huge shock!

Dave,
I can't comment on the business Nav/POI question but with respect to the MP3: I think you have the CCC controller which means the car is capable of reading MP3 discs with a CIP upgrade. In terms of cost I understand the CIP upgrade process can take a full 7 hours or so and worst case needs to be restarted if any problems. Getting the Aux or IPOD unit installed will also require coding so it makes sense to get it all done at once. My advice would be to phone around dealers and negotiate a fixed price CIP upgrade. Anything else and you might be looking at an open ended "by the hour" charge..not nice

Mtrhead, thanks for your quick response, that at least deals with the MP3 issue. Porobably my brain harking back to my e39 with Alpine changer that played mp3s. I'll try the disk in the dash slot and see what happens!
Thanks again Dave
Looking forward to some fun conversations with the dealers!

Dave,
There is no such thing as a fun conversation with a Dealer
I understand that a car of your age will not look at an mp3 disk without a lot of hardware replacement, as well as the software upgrade. IIRC, mp3 compatibility, hardware-wise, started late 2004 or maybe with the newer (button start) engines in 2005. (I am in the same predicament too).
I am no help with the SatNav either as I am on an aftermarket unit!
Good luck, and enjoy the car.
Mike

Dave,
I don't have the very latest firmware, but more recent than you - and business nav doesn't get POI beyond the ability to look up nearest hospitals and parks etc. If you get more than that with the latest software, please tell!
FWIW, my May 2004 530d with business nav will play MP3 CDs and DVDs via the dashboard sat nav DVD reader, so hopefully yours can too.

ditto on my oct 03 build. dvd mp3 works on the dash slot. its better with the latest progman tho-it lists all albums. TMC works on my bus nav. I think mine is a 06 disc. can you do the hidden idrive setting test to determine what progman you have? as the lack of tmc is probably due to this.
