Has anybody come across effective headlamp converters for driving in Europe, apart from the BMW ones?

(For Halogen lights of course).

You should ask olli_535d.

He's great on these modifications as on other "street wise" ones.

I thought there was a switch on the back of the headlight unit for left or right lane motoring...... Maybe I imagined it, but I'm sure BMW had this...

Do you know if the adaptive bi-xenons also have this switch for LHD/RHD mode?

Yup. More like a lever.

Bear in mind that the lever on Xenons does not turn the LHD projector into an RHD one; it simply eliminates the "kick" to the left of the beam, so you don't blind others with glare. Although it's not "poor" lighting, it's not as good as a proper RHD headlight.

Naughtily didn't switch my levers on my recent 3 day jaunt through France, Belgium, Holland to Germany.

Got flashed just the once in Boulogne town centre.

Oooops.

I am forever travelling between the UK and the continent. At least once a week now.
In the beginning I set the lever to european side driving, but after a while I just left them both facing inwards.
That way you never have to change them and there is plenty of light..
