isn't this the transmition slam problem that has be described thousad times here on the forum? it is basicaly a software problem and a CIP update helps... I don't know...

No This is not the transmission Slam problem. This is complete transmission failure

exactly, this was not a software problem! i got a call back from my service advisor mid week, saying my transmission was hosed. they replaced it (and all 4 tires too... some kind of cupping/defect) with a new one. they werent sure why or what led to this problem. anyhow, great service from bmw/dealer, also had a loaner for the 4 days it was in the shop, an x3 w/ 700 miles.

im glad that it's back :D :wow:

I'm curious...did they charge you for the loaner? I was a little disappointed that they are charging me $5 a day for a loaner since it's an obvious warranty issue with the car. It's not the money, but the principle of the thing. I expected having to replenish the gas, but feel that $5 is adding insult to injury.

I'm trying to find some principle in this....since there more people with the same problem.

Nope, loaner was complementary. Just had to return it w/ a full tank of gas. (@ $2.17/gal, it ate up $33 bucks  )

BIG TIME.........GET TO THE DEALER......I seen that a lot of this particular problem has been popping up on the 05's & 06's. Don't know whats causing it, but thats not your job, thats the dealers. Warranty...Warranty thats all one has to know. Sometimes the dealer only tells you "its a glitch in the idrive" but they do resolve the problem. Good luck

Thought I'd update you on my transmission problem on my '06 530i.

Got a call from the dealer today. They've just gotten authorization to replace my transmission and are waiting for one to be shipped to them. I should have it back in a couple of days.

Service advisor told me that they were stumped as to what was/went wrong. That they were working w/ Germany and they all decided the best approach was putting in a new tranny.

Car has less than 4K in mileage!

How concerned should I be? To my uneducated ears, it sounds like a major overhaul....
