(bringing my car in for service for this is covered under standard warranty right? im not over the 4yr/50000mi limit yet). thanks. |
I had the increased Emissions one before for a like 2-3 days and then it went away and never came back. Never seen the other ones and I SURE DO NOT EVER want to see it.

Nice. :)
well hope you get it sorted out. This one seems a little worse than all the other transmission problems I've read here before. Hope its nothing too serious... Keep us updated. |
Just had the same thing (Transmission malfunction) appear on my '06 530i which I also picked up in Sept. Fortunately, I was only 5 minutes from home. I was stopped at a light and when I accelerated got the message and Check Engine light came on. No real bang or anything. Pulled off, turned off the car, started it again and began accelerating. In about a minute, it happened again and I limped it home.
Called dealer and am having it towed on Monday to have them look at it. They were able to get me an X3 loaner for the weekend, though I have to pay $5 a day for it. (On a separate note, though that's not a lot of money, it kind of grated on me from a principle POV. 5 month old car is malfunctioning and I still have to pay for a loaner???) I'm hoping it's just a sensor or computer glitch. Car was driving great right up to it happening. |
A work pal of mine had this week a gearbox problem in this E46, 318iA.
He got his car to the dealers on auto-emergency gear 3, but the problem was found out to be only a sensor one, actually two sensors. But if you heard a "bang", your problem is bad -> to the dealers! |
isn't this the transmition slam problem that has be described thousad times here on the forum? it is basicaly a software problem and a CIP update helps... I don't know...

No This is not the transmission Slam problem. This is complete transmission failure [/quote] exactly, this was not a software problem! i got a call back from my service advisor mid week, saying my transmission was hosed. they replaced it (and all 4 tires too... some kind of cupping/defect) with a new one. they werent sure why or what led to this problem. anyhow, great service from bmw/dealer, also had a loaner for the 4 days it was in the shop, an x3 w/ 700 miles. im glad that it's back :D :wow:
