Look at the third pic down in this post. The ugly black filler panel at the shifter is gone. In its place is a filler panel that sits flush and matches the adjacent wood. This is much better. http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=41601&st=0
Hopefully this is the new standard on all new LCI 5 ers. I hope that my car gets this. It is just going into production.

It's standard on the Sport Auto, not the "normal" auto...

Wrong! Depends on the trim, not gearbox. As far as I know has the wood trims and alu trim the black filler. And the basic black/gray glossy trims matched filler. I have brushed alu and the black filler, it matches in quite well with the rubber storage area infront of it.

Yes, but now the shifter is uglier than ever. The sports shifter looks better but clearly the best looking center console is on a manual tranny.

Too much Charlie And The Chocolate Factory. LCI knob looks far better.

My Bad! There seems to be a difference between LHD and RHD for some reason that is probably perfectly understandable... but not for the moment.

Well it's still hard to tell what's going on here but for what it's worth, my LHD sport automatic car came with the black filler panel instead of one that's wood.

Take a look at the last photo in the first post to see what I mean:
http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=42160

I'm hoping that this is one of those things the BMW eventually makes a wood piece for that can be added later (like they did on the pre-LCI cars below the in-dash CD slots or the rear console wood trim...
