When my current tyres are due for replacement in a couple of months, I am toying with changing the tyre size.
Looking at PS2's -245/45 X 17, can't get PS2's in my standard size tyres (225/50 x17).
I am getting different advice on different websites, on 1010tyes site, they say that 245/45 are Ok on 7.5 rims.
The tyre bibles suggest a minimum of 8 inch rims for 245/45
What are the views here?
Any problems with mounting 245/45's on 7.5 rims?

That's a good question. I have the same sized rim.
Personally I wouldn't go any higher than 235 on a 7.5 inch rim.
I think the cooper tire website has a chart on recommended rim:tire width

The calculator on the Rochford Tyres site, suggests that 235/50 x 17 would be the only realistic option in a size available in PS2's.

Any views out there?

Gee KAF,
You do you have to make this so hard?
First, you win nothing by having wider tyres on your winter rims.
Second, don't mess with the ET's. BMW has made a great setup.
I.e. the Styling 122 with 17" wheels and 245/45 are too wide for a
really good winter setup.
I strongly recommend that you search for a Styling 138 setup with
good 225/50 17" wintertyres.
If you really need chains for you tyres in the Alps, the 225 setup works better.

I would never put wider tyres on for winter, even I am not that stoopid.............well not quite

I was hoping to use PS2's as summer replacements, it looks like the 235/50 are about the only size that would reasonably fit my 7.5 rims. If Michelin made them in 225/50 I would not have raised the question.

I got a confirmation from Tire Track sponsor over at Bimmerfest forums that the maxmium size tires you can put on the standard 17" wheels with no safety issues is 245, 45, 17.
Here is the link http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=151602
