Just got my car back from my dealer today after some recall work. I specifically booked my car in for the heated seats problem as I thought my E60 was one of the 75,000 worldwide 5 and 7 series affected by the recall problem. However on signing the job sheet the 2 recalls that was recorded did not appear to be for the heated seats. As my car was built in November 2003, I'm very surprised that its not one of the 75,000 cars.

I'm not totally sure of the exact details of the recall but from what I read they were for :-
1). Some sort of engine cover around the Active Steering area.
2). Some sensor within the seat.

It appears that the recall work also required some sort of software upgrade and its caused as my Active Steering to be a bit heavier than before. Forgot to ask which version I had installed this time.

Unless the 2nd recall mentioned is actually for the heated seats then I'm not sure what its about. My understanding from the posts in this forum was that the actual heating elements were being changed within the seats and not any sensor.

Has anyone else had this kind of recall done with regards to active steering or the seats?

BMW530, the sensor in the seat recall is for the passenger airbag detection system. It was one of the first recalls issued in the UK.

Browellm,
Thanks. That's interesting. As I never did get a letter about the recall. Also I didn't get any documentation from them today to confirm that the work is done. I suppose it will be on the BMW computer system but obviously for resale purposes it might be useful to have a paper copy too. Just a thought.

Well some of the news articles on the Internet says some cars built between February 2003 and June 2004. So pretty amazed that our November 2003 built ones are not one of them.

I just got mine back today. It's called "E60 E65 Seat Heating" and includes the following;
1 Seat Heat Kit
24 E36 Clip Seat-Pad
4 Cable Strap

I didn't get a letter about the recall either but it was came up on the work order for my car when the ST stuck my key in the reader. (October 03 build)

That's interesting. Maybe UK recalls are later than usual or as jmcaiado said maybe November 2003 builds are not affected.

...or maybe Comfort Seats are not affected!!!
Notice that people reporting doing the recall don?t have Confort Seats ?
Just a guess...

I just spoke to my service center yesterday and they searched on my car and said it was not part of the seat-heater recall program. I have a 545 with a 12/03 build date and heated comfort seats.

I don't think comfort seats are exempt. Don't all E65s have comfort seats?
