Turning off Airbags Up Front

Hi,
I've done a quick search but couldn't spot anything.
Does anyone know if it's possible to turn off the airbags in our cars for the passenger side? i.e. putting a child seat up front requires the bags to be turned off.

I believe the passenger side airbag is off unless there is a certain amount of weight in the seat. I am not sure what the sensor is set to though. I notice mine says off unless someone is sitting in the seat. That being said, I don't think that includes the side curtain airbags though. This is a good question. I would not recommend a child seat in the front anyway.

I don't think its recommended to have baby up front, that being said I don't think the baby and the seat is enough weight to activate the passenger airbag.

That is correct. I used to work on these systems, and generally it takes a lot more than a baby in a child seat to activate the bag. With that being said, NHTSA and just about everyone else is going to tell you the safest place for a child is in the back seat. Unless of course, you're in a roadster.

Otherwise, there is no fix I'm afraid.

There is an option that you can spec the car with or else a retrofit kit that will allow you to switch off the front bags with a key in the glovebox. You get a light in the headliner panel to indicate the bags are off.

is this retrofit kit available throughout the range, or are earlier models excluded. Mine's a Dec 2004 build.

The best thing to do is go to a Deal and talk to an SA. They have had a few updates on the sensors and also when the airbag light is on. I would check with them first. IF they tell you something they are Liable for the advise.
