Don't forget the old dimmer switch location. And turn signals were out the window!

Oh yeah, that's right -- I forgot about that one. I guess the first company to move the floor mounted dimmer switch to the turn signal stalk was solving a problem that didn't exist too!

I'm thinking that on US cars a "Florida Retiree" option might be useful.? If selected the right turn blinker would be permanently on.?

I lived in Ft. Lauderdale years ago. Lots of crazy drivers--between the retirees and the drunk/lost tourists...

Yeah, the problem is they don't turn them off though. The i-drive should not allow them to turn into the fast lane or drive in I-95 or especially the ternpike.

What's worse (with both groups) is changing lanes without any warning...and making a right turn from the left lane...

Excellent. I'm going to be a Florida tourist in July, thanks for the tips on how to drive, no indicators and change lanes unexpectedly, anything else I need to know...........

As explained above, the trick to canceling it on the E60 is to move the lever in the SAME direction as the indicator is blinking -- in other words, the opposite of what everyone is used to.

Once you get used to this new way, it actually makes more sense and works fine.

Threads like this are facinating to watch develop. Do none of us have real lives?
I am begining to worry that I don't as I just had to take my car out and experiment with the blinker control as I have not experienced these problems personally. I find that I can 'cancel' the blinker by moving the lever in either direction. That is, to cancel a left turn signal, I can push the level up as is my natural tendancy, or down as suggested in this thread.

Now I understand why BMW changed to the '06 model year so quickly.

The foot dimmer switch was one way to release emotion, especially when some *#$%C@%$^&%$# was oblivious to the first three flashes he got.

Wow--that brings back memories...and ages some of us. I remember as a kid my dad installed seat belts in our car, since they weren't standard equipment yet. My brothers and I felt like a bunch of geeks having to wear them...

So if I understand the Turn signals you pull down for a left turn and then you pull down again to turn off

Well, just finished reading this thread. All the guys in my town were getting used to me winding my way to work with the indicators going left, right, left, right for 100's of yards after a turn... No more! I now know how to stop them. And I did RTFM so I am SOOO glad someone else thinks this isn't in TFM!!

I'm all for change if only they actually put the instructions in TFM!!
