i have a 530d 2004 model and looking to have it tuned by a company in the UK called upsolute.com. they claim to increase bhp to 248bhp with a 10% saving on fuel economy for ?305 all inc.

any one heard of this company. has anyone tuned there e60, and finally is there is chance of damage to the engine.

your input would be welcome
Such claims from tuners always strike me as strange. If you could so easily get a bhp boost with an improvement in fuel economy without any downsides why wouldnt BMW have done it in the first place. I mean if a tuner can do it, BMW should certainly be able to - so why didnt they ??

I wouldnt let any such company touch my new car with a barge pole. No chance.
[/quote]Great report on your experience. Thank you. And, you have given very good advice. Personally, I won't do anything after market (except my B&B exhaust) unless it is produced by Dinan and is installed by my Dinan Certified BMW dealer. Dinan also makes good on its warranties.

Get your dealer to do it and nothing will happen... I have talked with the sales person at BMW here in my town and if you stick to the rules of tuning, made by BMW, then the risk of damage to the engine is minimal...

Just to share experiances, I had my wifes Volvo XC90 D5 tuned from 163HP to 192HP and Volvo System Tester did see increase in fuel pressure, but that did not harm the warranty. The only comment I did get from After Sales Advisor, was that gearboxes are sometimes not ready to take increase in torque and that can be a problem.

As someone said before, I ordered 535d just to have a clear head and not to worry whether to chipp tune my ride or keep it as it is. Can't wait untill second week February to get the car.

I think your salesperson is off base, at least if you are in the US, unless you are talking about Dinan programming. Then, in principle, if a BMW part fails because of the tuning, Dinan's provided warranty will cover the problem. Dinan provides a good warranty, but I would not trust the warranties of other US tuners. Salespesons are not the best people to get such info from in general.

Well he has been selling BMW since 1979 and it is tuning for diesel I am talking about... I'm in Denmark. Of cause it can blow up the engine if it's made by a company who don't stick to the rules made by BMW. The dealer is authorised by BMW so if the risk would be that big I don't think that he would say ok to it...
