Hi,
My 2004 525i has a problem. When the trunk is opened with remote (or with little manual support) it swings open rather fast. So much so, that it rocks the whole car 2-3 times. Not sure whats wrong. Irvine BMW stealership said, they need to do some diagnostics. So about $180 just to find out the problem. Can anyone tell me what could be the problem and its fix? I live in Orange County, so if someone knows a good mechanic who can fix this without robbing me, that would be most welcome.

remove the left and right inner trim panels from the trunk. as soon as you do, you're going to see a spring with three or four different 'attachment' points. try them all, see what works for you. FWIW when i was up at the dealer a couple of weeks ago one thing the sales person mentioned to me was the world famous 'E60 smack your friend in the face' trunk release. so it's kind of a 'they all do that' thing.
good luck.

By "the left and right inner trim panels", do you mean the woolen/plastic cover inside the trunk near both the tail lights, where there is a small compartment on left and a small net on the right?
I see that on left there are two plastic screws, which I could try removing. However, on right its not a screw. Just like a flat head rivet. Can I just pull it? I dont want to break it. Any trick to open the right side (if I have understood "the left and right inner trim panels" correctly)?
