Trunk opening sets off alarm

Just lately, opening the trunk (remotely) sets off the alarm if the vehicle is locked. I never use the metal key to open the trunk.
Used to be, you go to the grocery store, close the door and wait to hear the acoustic confirm on lock. Come out of the store, head straight to the trunk and pop it open on your way to the car without setting off the alarm.
Isn't that the way it is supposed to work? You don't need to unlock the car doors to avoid triggering the alarm, right?

There's a ton of posts here about this very thing. kscarrol is right, if this is something that is happening all of a sudden (you're already aware of the panic feature) then you might have to have things checked.

How do you set off the panic button without opening the trunk? For my car, if I hold it then the trunk pops open after like 1 second, I don't see how holding it longer will be used as the panic button at all. Unless the trukn pops open then the car alarms goes off... thats just inconvenient. Sorry for the off topic, and i agree with everyone, you should get your car checked out if it just started doing that...

Yep. All USA cars come standard with the alarm feature, which is an add-on option for most other markets.
But that could just be me being being not very observant.

My service guy said that you can add a panic delay to the CIP programming to get an additional 3 seconds before the alarm goes off. I'll try that and post the results.

This topic still makes me laugh - over a year into my car and I still say "one thousand one, one thousand two" as I am opening the trunk! Works everytime - I just feel like a dope saying it to myself.
