So my wife goes to work before me. She's walking out of the house and my phone rings.."do you know your trunk is open?"..sh*t! It rained all night. I went out and made sure everything still worked and it did. Figured I'd wait a couple of days and pull my speaker box and everything else out to let it dry. I left work yesterday and my I Drive screen went nuts and then just died. Pulled the spare tire out and looked at the power module...looked like some one dipped it in green cheese. Completly corroded and fried. Anyone know how much these things run? Thanks.

Oh man that sucks. I am not quite sure what the iDrive Module costs.
I am sure someone who knows will chime in

Good luck, I hope everything turns out OK

Thats a terrible feeling when you leave a window open and it rains.
Couldnt imagine how bad you felt leaving the trunk open. Good Luck!

Keep us posted on the details of the fix and of course the cost. We can all identify with what you are going through. I was lucky. I went in to a nice restaurant for dinner and when I returned my trunk was wide open! Must have inadvertently put pressure on my comfort access key in my pocket during dinner and the signal traveled all the way out to the parking lot! Fortunately I live in Colorado so no rain. Good luck.

My buddy at the dealership told me it's probably about 150. I must have hit the button in my pocket when I was in the house. Just glad I have decent neighbors ( bout a grand worth of audio equipment in my trunk)

Some time back there was a thread (I can't find it now) where members discussed ways of reducing the distance that the key's signal travels to avoid this mess. Maybe wrapping the key in tinfoil will work (hehe).

I did the same thing the other day with my trunk and a couple of weeks ago with my wife's Mini, although in that case I must have pressed the unlock button for too long, every window and even the sunroof was open. She was not happy coz it had just rained and thought I left it open all night. I was lucky because I must have opened it just as the rain stopped...there were only a few drops of water on the front seats.

Well they could have shut your trunk for you...

Seriously though, that really sucks. This happened to me once and I live in Seattle!! Luckily it didn't rain though. Go figure...

I think that may be the very definition of irony.
