My Ride: My Bimmer's info is in my sig, so I'll tell you about my garage toy. It's a 1997 Porsche Boxster. The car is black on black and I have replaced every single thing on the car (interior, exterior, drivetrain, suspension) except for the sheet metal and the convertible top (both of which will be next I guess). I love my Pcar more than any other car I have ever owned and will probably keep it for the rest of my life. Porsche. There is no substitute.

I need to see if another forum member who owns a MY07 550i will open their trunk and look up under the window area to see if there is bare metal there or a carpeted or felt cover of some sort that matches the sides and floor of the trunk area.

I just noticed mine is bare metal and wondered if the PO or a dealer took it out to repair something back there and didn't put it back in.

I am finding it odd that BMW would cut corners in other places such as not spraying clear coat on the inside of the front hood, or painting the inside of the rims... this may be another cost-cutting measure using the old "If you can't see it, it's not important" theory.

How unbelievably cheap for a car that cost $69,000 new. I'm actually very surprised.

Even my run of the mill Honda Accord had a carpeted trunk top so luggage would not be scratched up.

you sure? I don't remember my '95 accord having carpet up there either. I actually prefer it- gives me a place to stick my magnetic work light if i'm changing the battery or doing any other work back there. If it bugs you that much you can always go get some carpet at a car stereo place, cut it to size, and either use the same trim clips to snap it into place (there's GOT to be some holes in that top) or use 3M spray adhesive to hold it there.

the carpet we do have is significantly thicker than anything in an Accord, though...
