Default Trim piece on volume came off..glue recommendations?

The other day the black center trim piece on the volume knob came off in my hand. It appears that one of the two prongs that held it in broke off.

My question is..what type of glue would any of you recommend. I know from experience that certain glues will melt plastic and/or remove paint (knob looks painted silver). The glue would also need to withstand the South Carolina summer heat in the car everyday without failing. I do have superglue at the house...Thanks in advance.

Have you checked to see if that button can be purchased? You never know. Otherwise, the home improvement stores now have some pretty decent super strength glues by loctite. I've used a couple of them and they seem to be much stronger than before. I would try the gel so it doesn't run everywhere and only use a little. Gorilla glue is also good but the one I have expands and could create a big problem for you when it dries...

Yep. Loctite Superglue. BUT just use a very small amount. Most people overdo it and put too much which causes failure. Classic case of 'less is more'.

Play it safe and use double sided 3M tape from Home Depot.

Tony, I searched the BMW parts website for hours this morning. It looks like the knob is part of the audio head unit and is not sold separately.

If I can find something thin enough I may try this first, if not Ill go the superglue/loctite route.
Thanks for the recommendations

Try to call the BMW dealership and ask whether they have this part, they will probably have the complete knob.

I have the same problem, but I was able to order one online from here: Home Page > ES#181215 Volume Control Knob - 65129119574

Mine is already here, but I haven't tried installing it yet. Does anyone know how to remove the original one?
