Trim changed colour
#1
Hi all,
I purchased a 2004 530i recently with Anthracite maple trim and the trim on the door handles has gone very brown.
BMW UK told me that it was not the original trim but I have gone to great lengths to prove that they are the factory fitted peices and now they are saying that it's never happened before so basically "tough luck"
Please could anyone who has had this problem drop me a quick post so that I can go back to BMW UK as I can't believe that mine is the only car that this has happened to.
Many thanks,
Mike

huh??? Those are two different trims your posted pics of...
Now all they say is "well we haven't had that happen before" and "the car is out of warranty"
A bit darker or lighter I can understand but to change colour is just strange.
We only get about two weeks of sun a year here in the UK so I can't see that being the problem.
I don't want to spend ?600 on four door trims just for them to have the same thing happen again.
Here are pictures of the passenger door and the rear doors, the passenger door is still very brown but the rear doors are only just turning brown.
By the way, when the front door trims were taken off of the car they are still the same colour as the dash where they fit under the small speaker by the window and have been out of direct sunlight.
Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Wow... I could have sworn the door handle wood trim is dark poplar wood and the dash is Anthracite...

I have exactly the same thing. The front passenger side trim looks exactly as the one in the picture. Mine is still under warranty and will be going to the dealer soon to see what their response is.

Here is mine.
I can't believe that this has only happened to a couple of cars, there must be loads out there.
Let me know how you get on at the dealers

This just proofs that trims are real wood, not plastics.
Of course wood changes color over the years, but wood in doors and in dash should behave similarly. Maybe there is small difference with coating.
I also have Anthracite maple trims, but they are not brown at all.
