I just got back from Peter Pan BMW. The SA told me $460 to retro my 04 530i, with Nav for mp3 playback.

Did anyone have to pay that much, that seems steep! I'm looking at the SIP, it says its covered "New Vehicle Limited Warranty", but my car is CPO. Am I SOL?

He stated the following operation needed to be done, which I guess is 3+ hours of labor.

Labor Operation: Retrofit MP3 and program/code control
modules (including CAS)
Labor Operation Labor Allowance

I didnt have to pay, plus they gave me a loaner. However I was still under the primary warranty not the extended, so if the dealership wants to be assholes they probably could say your not under the "New Vehicle Limited Warranty" I am not sure if they would be covered under the CPO warranty.

If you cant get them to cover it, try another dealer in the area.

I was doing some research. I came across a few people who had a similar story I have, never saw a resolution on how they got around it. Agreed, I'm going to call around and see what other dealers say, thanks for the reply!

this also depends on what version of software you have on the car now. if you have a really old version you will need an update. otherwise, it's just a matter of going to the retrofit menu, clicking a few buttons, and walking away for a few minutes.

the SIP should list the version of software required for the retrofit to work.

I would try a different dealership, that sounds too high for just a retrofit

I dropped mine off Monday at Peter Pan BMW and they are enabling my mp3 under factory warranty. I guess CPO doesn't cover that..

I think they just don't like me or something, BMW of SF and Sonnen both want to only charge me $140 for the retrofit, quite a bit cheaper!

As for whether its covered, doesn't appear so, CPO does not cover "audio". Good to know!
