Any rental car, any loaner, any demo even ones driven by salesmen themselves are abused.
Don't make me look like a horrible monster when almost everyone here would 'enjoy' the car as much as i did.

Just so you know, I know you're making a point about demo abuse and this reply is in no ways ment to argue with you. Sometimes its hard to tell over written text if someone is ticked off or not.

but you're right, i would never buy a demo or any used rental or loaner.

I am not passing judgment on whether this is right or wrong, but you are definately not alone. It reminds me of an episode of Seinfeld where he is renting a car. The car rental agent asks if Jerry wants the insurance and he says "Oh yes becasue I am going to beat the hell out of this car."

Its not like dawyeah is bragging about how he abused the loaner by doing useless donuts or something. He's actually giving us SMG owners insight as to what is allowed by the system. For example, I thought that in order to shift from N to D, your foot had to be on the brake, but dawyeah disproved that. At least he's being helpful.

dawyeah, play on playa...

If polled, I'd vote for "irresponsible." Also, I don't know about others' experiences, but I can't remember the last time a dealer sent me out with a demo without being accompanied by a salesman. Well, once I remember on a Moto Guzzi test ride, the dealer asked me if I had downshifted to second and twisted to the end, and I said "no.' He sent me back out again to be sure that I got that thrill.

Oh, and I bought the Guzzi, but not that one....

Cheers,

Makes me wonder if these "tricks" just hurt the clutch or are gears smashing somewhere down there...

Maybe it's just me but I treat my BMW loaners as if they were mine.

Then again, maybe it's just that I love cars too much to abuse them...

I don't abuse them but I do probably use up more than the typical amount of redlines, tire & brake pad. I wouldn't call it abuse, just hard driving.

Stop harassing dawyeah.

He's just having a little fun with the rent-a-car.

OK...IM with hollywoodtrash. Give dawyeah a break! If we weren't all just "big kids" having fun with our grown up toys....we would be driving a Ford Five Hundred. We bought a BMW because we like to have fun behind the wheel.

My confusion: Once I rented a Dodge Durango and break-torqued it so much you could bearly see the car from all of the smoke from the tires. I was great.....I felt like I was 16 again!!!!
