It means that you should go to "check control" in your iDrive menu and check for errors! Probably nothing serious unless you have some nasty message on your iDrive-display... I had that symbol the other day when i only had 8 litres (is that 2 gal.?) of gas left.

I think we're all assuming it's the triangle with the exclamation point in it (!). If it doesn't have this, it could be the triangle that indicates the phone is roaming.

Several benign things can cause the "check control" - not wearing your seatbelt, not having accepted the iDrive warning yet, gas reserve level met, and having DSC/DTC turned off. Check the service messages to see if there's a problem or press the bottom button on the trip computer stalk for a systems test. If there aren't errors, you'll see a large "OK". If there is something wrong, you'll see the car elevated on a lift.

That might be true! (I had the /!\ too fresh in mind). If it's the roaming triangle, that means that you are connected to another network/operator than your "home" network/operator. Are you travelling outside your own state? Here in Europe we normaly get that triangle when we enter another country (as national roaming is very unusual here).

You'll get the roaming triangle alot if you're a Cingular or ex-AT&T customer. Your phone will use whichever network has the best signal, but still see it as roaming. Cingular will eventually "rebadge" those AT&T nodes it is keeping.
