Guys,
couple quick questions. Does anyone have an experience with regards to what modifications I will have to make (if any) to convert my car to EU standards? BMW is unable to tell me for some reason. I have an 2004 525i, purchased in February 2004 in USA. There are no modifications and the only thing replaced are brakes in September 2007, done by an authorized dealer in Houston, TX.
I want to bring it over with to me to Prague as I am starying a new job, but it seems like there might be a big hassle dealing with EU regulations and other bs. If anyone has any experience or advice please let me know.
Thank you and best regards,
Ason

Can't give a definitive answer, but it may not be as bad as you think.
There are strict controls on import of new cars, but a 4 yr old personal car may not be an issue, we get loads of cars driven into the EU from non EU countries and none of them are stopped and checked for EU regs controls.

Drive it on US plates in Europe and get insurance in Europe. In that case you need no conversions. Make sure your registration is current before you ship the car and does not require any smog or other inspections.

Bear,
I thought about doing that but after further analysis, thats not an option for me. a) you can only do this for 3 years max, b) you cant sell the car, c) you have to pay a montly fee that totals 3% of sales tax and customs. the fee alone would come up to $362 per month based on current CZK/USD fx rate.
