So, at the beginning of the month I noticed fluid on my garage floor and knew it was coming from the transmission. I brought it in for service and ended up being a cracked pan. I had them also replace mechatronics sleeve and do a full fluid change while they were in there. (The tech said I was down about 1 qt. from the leak and normal use) About a week after I experienced a pretty violent transmission slam when it was shifting from I think 3rd to 2nd gear. This was only the 3rd slam I've experienced in my 1 year and 20,000 miles of ownership. I would say I'm lucky compared to the sounds of others.
Fast forward to yesterday. I drove about 30 highway miles and got off onto backroads. As I was driving around 40mph I felt what I thought was a transmission slip. Sure enough it was indeed. The tranny was in 5th gear at lower rpm...under 1500...and it had a very repeatative slip - every 10 seconds or so. It was very quick and no one else in car could even feel it but I could through the pedal. It almost felt that the car was thinking about up or down shifting caught in a lower rpm to gear decision. But, it also felt like a slip of the gears.
I took the car out today for quite some time and ran through the gears, put it on the highway, and got it up to temp. I had no slipping what so ever. Anyone with any thoughts? Might it be the ECU trying to adjust with new fluid and all? Car's got almost 80,000 on it but still feel that's way under mileage for the tranny to go. My wife's got 130,000 on hers and our E36 had 240,000 on it with no transmission issues. What's with these new tranny's?
TIA
Ben

The new trannys have way too much software doing the thinking. I wish BMW would revert to a purely mechanical transmission.
