Try the 25 sec trick. I was having a very similar problem in that it was slamming as I pulled off after coming up to a roundabout but not stopping fully. This trick seemed to sort it out.

Give it a go.

Marc

Hi Marc,

I've tried this but it doesn't seem to make any difference

OT: You seem to have exactly the same car as me

That's not exactly true, sometimes my car starts in 1 sometimes in 2 and I always drive in D.
When its starts off in 2 and the car realises that its not pulling away quick enough, it drops into 1st violently. And you guys think that's acceptable?
It depends how aggressive your starts are. I'll pick the appropriate gear... if the slam is "that" rough I agree it's probably shouldnt be...

I get the slam at times and no, the 25sec trick doesn't cure it. I'm taking the car next week into BMW for the last maintenence before warranty runs out in April.....

There is enough stuff written on this subject in past posts for a Phd. candidate to write a dissertation on the subject.

I have noticed that I get the slam in the morning after cold starts. Once the car warms up the slam goes away for me. I also get the slam if I punch it as well.

I have had the slam on my 545 as well.

Yeah I am the same as you. My car has done 22k and only just started doing it. It only happens when cold and slowing down. Once warm all is fine.

The slam you talk about when pulling away is different. The car takes around 15 seconds to go into 1st gear once you have come to a stop. So quick stop boot it and it will change down to 1st gear with a slam. Wait 20 seconds or so it will be in 1st gear boot it no probs. That what mine does anyway

I went through this on my 545i and it took several trips to the dealer, software updates, documentation etc. The last month they replaced the transmission ON THEIR DIME!! It drives like a completely different car, just like new!! So be insistent, be a bit noisy, and demand they do something about it!! Until then, reset your transmission at least weekly and let us know how this all turns out!!

How can you tell if you dropped to 1 or 2 btw ??

No indication on my dash when only D or DS, display only shows when in manual override ?

I get none of this "slam" effect on mine, I dont think at least.....I get a little movement in the car but nothing which feels "wrong" ?
agreed.
