I know the transmission subject has been overly discussed on this forum and I read many posts but something weird happened with me today that I want to run by you and see what you think! I'm at a traffic light, light turns green I step moderately on the gas paddle, I can feel the transmission is shifting smoothly from 1st, 2nd and third and possibly fourth and then I get kind of a kick feeling not sure what it is for a split second. It's like something holds the car for a split second and then release it. I'm driving in "D" mode and doing around 50-60 Km/h by the time it happens. No issues in down shifting or anything else. It happened about four times on my way home today. The dealer updated my software to the latest version couple of months ago before my CPO expired, they were doing some work on the car and had to upgrade me to the latest. Could this software upgrade be the cause? If it is why it's showing up now after almost 2 months? I just got home and did a factory reset to the transimssion hoping it would resolve whatever this thing is but have not taken the car to a test drive.

Any ideas what the cause might be?
Is this Murphy's law that my CPO expired and I'm going to have a major transmission problem?

Have you done the 25 second reset? Turn ignition on, and step the gas pedal to the floor for 25 seconds.

I did but did not hear any clicks from the trany as a sign of the reset. Is that sound always there? Or should I consider the reset done by waiting the 25-30 seconds?

I too did not hear any sound but I think the Idrive's clock actually reset itself or may be I was imagining things. I did notice a difference with the hesitation though.

I didn't hear any clicks, however I noticed a big difference with shifting right after doing it. So I've been doing this every couple of months and it's helped.

Here is a link Reset Transmission In Car where it worked for some people with pedal down upto 30 seconds but no more than 35 seconds.

25sec seems to do the trick for me.

Are you over 60,000 miles? Mine ('04 545i)started acting up about that time, and a transmission service fixed it right up. Dealer wanted over $1200 to change fluid and tried to convince me to replace trans.

WOW! $1200 to change fluids is HIGH? I changed my tranny fluid at 52K, and I bought the fluid from the dealer ($100 for fluid in a used anti-freeze gallon container), and replaced a leaking seal. Only cost, including fluids was around $150.

Mine has 108,000 kilometers which is ~64k miles. I reset the transmission yesterday and drove it with no issues. I will try it for the next few days and if this is the case I will consider changing the transmission fluid.

I was amazed they were so confident I would pay it. I wound up buying the parts and fluid from rm european and doing it myself.

The "reset" didn't work for me, I found that the transmission worked itself out after about 50 miles after changing the fluid and filter/pan.

Were you getting kind of the a kick feeling beyond the second gear? I'm trying to find out if anyone experienced the same thing that I had.
