Default Transmission Pan Question.

My 2006 BMW 530i (N52 Engine) is at 83,340 miles. I want to replace the fluid and oil pan this weekend if time and procrastination do not get in the way. :-)

I am looking at this: BMW Automatic Transmission Oil Pan Filter Gasket Drain Plug ZF 217 | eBay

According to their listing, it says ZF GERMANY OEM (part #24 11 75 71217). Can anyone please tell me what is the difference between their part number and BMW Part Number:_24_15_2_333_907?

Per www.realoem.com, the correct part for my car is 24117571217; there's not space nor the dash (-) symbol in between the numbers.

Thanks for your help and any suggestions!

Looks like the 907 number is the latest part and the 217 number is obsoleted.

Hey Dan, hope you are doing well...
24117571217 is for just the pan (filter is integrated in to the pan)
24152333907 is for the 'kit'.

I suppose the 'kit' includes the filter+pan, gasket, drain plug, etc.

Did you buy trans fluid? If you are just dropping the pan and replenishing, then you will likely need around 4 qts.

Not sure. If you look at ECS Tuning, it indicates that 217 is superseded:

Ah, thanks for providing the "picture" to point that out! I guess I need to stop watching porns (pictures) and learn to "read".

Including your knowledge, I am glad you have the same year, make and model! It does boost on confidence when I know who to turn to if I f@#$ up. The Bentley Service Manuel that I have sometimes makes things more simple than the actual job itself. lol

I finally got my new water pump and thermostat installed last Sunday! Yeah, one less thing to worry about!

I spoke with the representative from the captioned website and he did confirmed that it is a ZF OEM part. I am going to order that and the sleeve.

As for the transmission fluid, I have 13 bottles of genuine BMW OEM fluid stocked away about six months ago. I am planning to do two to three flushes. lol

Thanks, bro!

What does that mean? Why did the supersede 217? Is the 209, a superior product with superior quality?

Thanks.

BMW (all manufacturers) are constantly changing parts. Sometimes to fix engineering weaknesses, sometimes to have a less expensive part that does the same thing. In this case, I suspect it isn't anything big. You can look at pictures of the old (217) and new part (907) and I can't see any difference.

While I agree manufacturers are constantly improving parts, no where on the ECS site it says 24117571217 supersedes 24152333907 or the other way around. I was able to enter each of the part numbers and the site gave results, take a look...

Based on what is shown on RealOem, one is for the filter+pan, and the other is for 'kit'.

As long as we get pan+filter+gasket (plus drain plug if not included in the pan), then we OP will be ok.

Dan, why don't you call your local BMW dealer parts dept, they can confirm the most updated part number.
