Default transmission oil service

My mechanic is charging me $700 for transmission oil service . My car is 2006 530i and has 72,000 miles on it. Is this about the right fee.

I have a 04 530i and I jave 135k on it do you think I should change mine or just wait till it fails completely? Because some people say its best to leave it be for being so old?

Yes $700 is reasonable to replace the tranny sleeve and pan. yours must be leaking oil. common issue with e60s.

I've been told the dealership along with my Indy that the transmission is considered "sealed" and the oil in it is "lifetime" oil and does not need to be changed... I went with it and now just don't worry about it... If u go ahead with it, your shift adaptations will be reset and the car will drive differently for a little while until it relearns ur driving habits again!

What do you mean by "I went with it"? Are you saying you changed your transmission fluid anyway and now sleep well, or that because they told you that you don't need to, that you didn't, and won't worry about it in the future?

72K seems a little early to me. I started looking to change mine when getting close to 100K. Round about that mileage, the adaptor sealing block inside started leaking and resulted in a pressure loss causing a tranny malfunction. I had the adaptor seal, mechatronic sleeve and new pan/bolts along with new oil. Quotes were around 700 and 500 reusing/filtering the old oil. Kyle has a very good DIY if you are someone who can handle the task. It was tempting for me.
